1
Be sure you qualify for the GED before taking any online GED courses.
There is no point in wasting your time. Certain age restrictions apply to taking the GRE (generally speaking over 18) as well as education level restrictions (have to have withdrawn from high school.) Unless you are currently enrolled in the military you will want to be sure you match up to these two requirements before taking online GED courses.

2
Only take online GED courses that are truly free.
There is no required course work for the GRE. The test only measures your capability, not the hours you have spent in educational environments like online classes. So the only real requirement is that you know your stuff. So don't pay for online classes you aren't even required to take. Read the fine print and only sign up for free online GED courses or for free GRE study aids.

3
Schedule your GED study times.
It is a difficult test to study for if you do not have a tutor or teacher helping you stay disciplined. So schedule your online GED courses even if they are really only glorified study guides. Set aside a time and stick to it.

Take practice GED tests.
You have to take the real test at a state approved facility designed specifically for testing. You don't want to have to go there and pay for the test unless you are certain you are prepared to pass. Use your online GED courses to build your knowledge base. Then take practice tests until you are confident you can pass. Since 60 percent is the bottom line, shoot for at least 75 percent in practice tests before signing up. Keep studying until you can reach that mark.
