How to Prevent Bedsores On a Bedridden Patient
Prevention of bedsores on bedridden patients, is a priority in nursing homes and hospitals everywhere. Knowing how to prevent bedsores can literally be the difference between life and death for these patients. Here is some tips, that if followed, will prevent bedsores.

Make a turning schedule, and post it on the wall above the bed. This way you won't get confused on when the patient is to be turned. Make sure the patient is kept on this schedule.

When turning the patient on their side, make sure that the patients hip is completely under the patient. Then the first pillow needs to go behind the patients back. Place the pillow lengthwise down the spine, then fold the pillow in half doubling it. after propping the patient this way, you can roll the patient back against the pillow, and make them more comfortable.

Next, you need to find any pressure areas on the patient, and protect these areas. Place a pillow lengthwise between the legs from the knees to the ankles, place the legs at a comfortable angle. Another thing you may consider is sheep skin booties to protect the patients ankles.

When it's time to turn the patient on their back, you can use pillows here too. place them under legs, arms, hips, etc... where ever there are pressure areas. As long as the patient is comfortable, you can't use too many pillows.
