How to Correctly Apply Powder Foundation
There are two major varieties of powder foundation: pressed powder and loose powder. Both varieties should be applied after you've cleansed your skin and applied a liquid concealer. Never apply powder foundation with your fingertips, and always choose a shade that complements your skin tone. This type of makeup can accent your cheekbones, flatter your nose and give you a darker tone under the jaw line for contour purposes. Does this Spark an idea?

Apply the powder foundation with a foundation brush. Swirl the brush into the compact to pick up foundation particles. Tap the excess powder from the brush, then swirl the bristles onto your face in circular motions at a downward angle.

2
Blend the foundation all over your face by continuing the circular motions over your cheeks, forehead and chin. Use soft strokes, and repeat for medium to strong coverage. However, if you have acne, applying powder to your entire face can create a mask-like look. Therefore, only blot the shiny areas with your brush, then spot-cover any red marks.

Apply a powder foundation that is one shade darker just below the cheek bones, then under the center of your eyes and over the hairline to highlight the cheekbone area. Follow the contours of the cheekbones for a more natural appearance, as apposed to an artificial blush effect. Additionally, apply a powder foundation that is one shade darker to the bridge of a wide nose to reduce its size. Blend the edges well, then use a normal skin shade for the outer edges of the nose.

Apply the powder to your neck and ears to avoid stark makeup lines. Pay attention to your jawline and be careful about the amount of powder you are applying. Too much powder on your face and neck can resemble a mask.
