Apply 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide directly to the acne. Benzoyl peroxide brings oxygen into the skin. It is found in most acne treatment products, but most use higher percentages of benzoyl peroxide. Too much of it can further irritate and dry the skin and ultimately make acne sores even worse. Use a soft cotton ball or a fingertip to gently massage the 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide solution over acne sores once a day. If the skin responds well to this, increase the treatments to twice a day. Other creams that can work are products with retinol. Those creams will also help eliminate small wrinkles.

Simple water can help adult acne treatment. Wash your face and neck twice a day with warm water without scrubbing or rubbing the problem areas. Those actions rub dirt and oil deeper into the skin and will lead to more acne. Avoid touching the problem areas as much as possible since the hands will also transfer dirt and oil to the acne spots.
