How to Clean IBM Thinkpads
According to bit-tech.net, the average keyboard is home to 400 times the bacteria that a toilet seat has. Sneezing and coughing while sitting in front of it, occasionally getting so mad that you spit on it, and plain old daily use all add up to a lot of dust, grime, and germs. Fortunately, it's not hard to keep a Thinkpad or any other computer clean. Use manufacturer-approved methods for cleaning any laptop to clean your IBM Thinkpad.
Things You'll Need

1
Clean the keyboard. Moisten a soft lint-free cloth, such as cheese cloth, with isopropyl alcohol and gently wipe the keyboard while the computer is shut off. Isopropyl alcohol is flammable, so never do this while your computer is on and hot.
You can also clean dust from between the keys with canned air.

Clean the screen with a dry soft cloth. That alone removes dust. If your screen is a little dirtier than that, you can mix a bit of water with isopropyl alcohol in a one to one ratio. Dip the soft cloth in the mixture and wring it out until it is just damp. If necessary, fold it inside another cloth or a paper towel to squeeze out excess moisture. Use the damp cloth to wipe down your screen. Make sure the computer is off when you do this.

Clean the exterior. First gently mix 1 tbsp. of liquid dish soap with 5 tbsp. of water. You don't need suds. Dip your soft cloth into the mix and wring it out well. It should not be dripping wet. Use it to wipe off the computer case. Do not bear down on the case. A circular motion helps you to get rid of stubborn fingerprints. Wipe the entire surface a second time, this time with a dry cloth. Let any remaining moisture air dry.
