How to Tie Elastic Bracelets

Making beaded bracelets using elastic cording is a fast and easy way to make beautifully unique bracelets to wear for any occasion. A benefit of elastic cording is the ease with which you can finish off your bracelets because there is no need for clasps or hardware of any kind. Simply create your bracelet and leave enough room to tie the cording tightly. The only step that remains is to conceal the knot within a bead.

Things You'll Need

  • Elastic cording
  • Scissors
  • Beads (2 to 4 mm)

Instructions

    • 1

String the beads onto the elastic cording to make the bracelet as you desire. Leave 2 inches of free elastic cording on each end of the unfinished bracelet for tying.

    • 2

Tie the ends of the elastic cording together in a square knot. Tie the first half of a square knot by crossing the right cording over the left cording and then tie the second half of the square knot by crossing the left cording over the right cording. Tighten the square knot as tightly as possible.

    • 3

Apply a dot of Bead Fix glue to the square knot and allow the glue to dry.

    • 4

Place a dot of glue inside a bead immediately beside the knot and slide the bead over the knot to hide the knot. Allow the glue to dry again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Making bracelets with elastic cording is an ideal beginner's project.

  • Make sure the elastic bracelet is the correct size before tying the knot. It must be large enough to slip over your hand, but not so large that it will fall off your wrist. An elastic bracelet should have to stretch slightly to go over your hand but then revert to a comfortable fit around your wrist.
