How to Program Keyless Entry for a Dodge Pickup

You can program additional keyless entry remotes for Dodge pickups (Ram and Dakota) as long as you have a working master remote. Remotes can be programmed for all models except those equipped with the sentry key (remote and key on the same piece). If you have a sentry key or don't have a working master remote, bring your truck to the nearest Dodge dealer; associates there will program it for you, using their factory diagnostic equipment.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn your key to the "Run" position, but do not start the engine. Shut the doors and wait for the warning beeps to stop.

    • 2

Hold the "Unlock" button on the currently programmed remote for five seconds, and then press and hold the "Panic" button (while still holding "Unlock") for one second.

    • 3

Press and hold the "Lock" and "Unlock" button on the same remote for a few seconds, then release the buttons and press the "Unlock" button.

    • 4

Press and hold the "Lock" and "Unlock" button on the new remote, then release the buttons and press the "Unlock" button. Repeat the procedure for up to four remotes within 30 seconds.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your remote will not program to the truck, you may need to replace the battery. The proper battery number for Dodge pickups is 2016. Insert a coin or small knife to pry the remote halves apart and replace the battery.
