How to Cook With Hemp Protein Powder

Hemp protein powder is made from hemp seeds and is also one of the richest sources of complete protein. It is easy to digest and can be added to ingredients while cooking or mixed into smoothies.   • 2 mixing bowls
  • 1-1/2 cup hemp protein powder
  • 1/2 cup shelled hemp seeds
  • 1 cup rye flour
  • 1/4 cup millet
  • 2 cups quinoa flour
  • 3 tbsp. of spices such as marjoram, thyme and rosemary
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2-1/2 teaspoon yeast
  • 1 tbsp. hemp seed oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1-1/3 cup milk, soymilk or hemp milk
  • 3 tbsp. honey

      Cook a simple bread recipe with hemp protein powder to use for sandwiches or snacking. According to manitobaharvest.com, Chef Steven Karr of San Luis Obispo, California, creates a crunchy hemp protein bread by measuring dry ingredients first such as 1-1/2 cups of hemp protein powder, 1/2 cup of shelled hemp seeds, 1 cup of rye flour, 1/4 cup of millet, 2 cups of quinoa flour, 3 tbsp. of spices such as marjoram, thyme and rosemary, 1 tsp. of salt and 2-1/2 tsp. of yeast.

      Place the dry ingredients for the hemp bread in one of the mixing bowls. Mix the dry ingredients well making sure there are no clumps in the dry ingredients.

      In a the other mixing bowl, measure wet ingredients for the hemp bread. You will need 1 tbsp. of hemp seed oil, 2 eggs, 1-1/3 cups of milk, soy milk or hemp milk and 3 tbsp. of honey.
      Mix the wet ingredients together until incorporated.

      To finish the bread, mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and shape into a bread loaf on a greased cookie sheet. Allow the bread to rise for 1 hour.

      Cook in a 350-degree Fahrenheit oven until it is golden brown, about 30 to 45 minutes. Allow bread to cool before cutting.
