How to Make a Sofa Into a Love Seat
Loveseats, originally British designs, can be great additions to the living room. With two-person seating, they provide interesting aesthetics and a minimalist use of space. Instead of investing your money in an entirely new sofa, consider converting your current sofa into a space-saving love seat. - Pen
- Sawzall
- Upholstery fabric (approximately 15 feet by 10 feet)
- Sewing machine
- Wood
- Foam
- Drill
- Large screws

Calculate the necessary area on your current sofa that would allow two people to comfortably sit. Mark the excess with a black pen.

Cut along the marked line and remove the excess sofa, using the sawzall reciprocating saw.

Measure the old sofa armrest's length and width.

Measure the piece of wood, using the armrest measurement. Sand all the edges for a smooth finish along all the edges.

Drill a hole through the wood and the cut the sofa edge. Use the screws to secure the wood. Drill at least five holes for five screws.

Measure all the parts of the sofa -- seat, armrests, back. Use these measurements to purchase the desired upholstery fabric.

Place foam along the edges of the wooden armrest to achieve a soft, padded surface along the wood.

Sew each piece of upholstery fabric together and wrap each section. Leave a hole at the bottom. You may wish to secure with heavy-duty staples along the unnoticed edges.
