How to Install Supply Line Plumbing on a Dishwasher
Adding a dishwasher to the kitchen requires a supply line to feed the hot water to the appliance. There are many different types of supply lines available, so research plumbing techniques if this is your first attempt at minor plumbing. The advent of PVC plumbing pipes encouraged homeowners to do minor plumbing remodeling themselves. Things You'll Need
- Crescent wrench
- PVC pipe cutter
- PVC "T" fitting
- 6-inch PVC pipe
- PVC shutoff valve
- Variable speed drill
- 1-inch paddle bit

Locate the shutoff valve at the water meter and turn the shutoff valve to the "off" position with the crescent wrench. Remove everything from under the kitchen sink.

Turn on the hot water valve in the sink to remove water pressure from the hot water line. Cut the PVC pipe 1 to 2 inches behind the shutoff valve with PVC pipe cutters.

Apply PVC primer to the end of one of the PVC pipes created by the cut. Apply PVC glue on the same end and install the PVC "T" fitting on the end of the pipe, giving it a slight twist. Repeat this with the end of the other pipe created by the cut.

Apply PVC primer to one end of the 6-inch PVC pipe. Apply glue. Install the threaded adapter on that end, giving it a slight twist. Repeat the application of the primer and glue on the other end of the pipe and install it into the open end of the "T" fitting.

Drill a hole in the side of the sink cabinet next to the dishwasher with the 1-inch paddle bit. Attach the dishwasher line to the new shutoff valve and feed it through the hole and under the dishwasher.

Remove the lower panel from the front of the dishwasher to reveal the water connection to the dishwasher. Connect the water line to the dishwasher.

Turn the main water shutoff valve back to the "on" position and check for leaks at the new connection. Turn on the water to the dishwasher and check for leaks at the dishwasher connection.

Tips & Warnings
Wrap the pipe threads with sealer tape to ensure a good seal.
Use only approved PVC primer and glue on PVC connections.
Do not leave cleaning chemicals removed from under the sink in reach of children.
Do not leave cutting tools unattended in the presence of children.
