Due to the nature of their roles and responsibilities, pharmaceutical representatives are very easy to identify. They can often be found in the waiting rooms of physician offices, hospitals, and other medical institutions. Additionally, they are often well-dressed in dark suits and have drug sample bags in hand. These pharmaceutical professionals are often sought out for two main reasons: employment opportunities and pens.

1. Visit a physician's office or medical complex. Pharmaceutical representatives typically wear name tags that include company names and products, and usually can be seen carrying a large bag (with company or product name) or briefcase.

2. Inform a receptionist of the purpose of your need to contact a pharmaceutical representative. Though the typical reasons for contacting pharmaceutical reps are employment opportunities and marketing supplies, there are some people who seek free drug samples. It is against the law in every state for a pharmaceutical rep to dispense drug samples to anyone other than a qualified health care professional.

3. Request a copy of the business card of the desired representative and thank the receptionist for her assistance.
