How to Remove Facial Hair in Women

Facial hair is a common complaint among women. Unwanted facial hair is most frequently found on the upper lip, the chin, between the brows and on the skin closest to the hairline. Depilatory creams use harsh chemicals that can damage the sensitive skin of the face. Shaving never fully eliminates the appearance of facial hair, and it can result in dark shadows and stubble. Tweezing can remove facial hair, but it is time consuming. The best way to remove facial hair, by far, is waxing. Waxing is quick and easy, and it eliminates hair for up to two weeks. Instructions

    • 1

Cleanse the area to be waxed using a cotton ball and a small amount of skin cleanser. Rinse away the cleanser with lukewarm water, and pat dry with a clean towel.

    • 2

Remove the lid from the microwave wax container, and place the container in the microwave. Heat the wax on high for 60 seconds. Stir the wax with a wooden applicator. If the wax is not fully melted, heat for an additional 60 seconds or until all of the wax is fluid.

    • 3

Cut the muslin into narrow strips using the scissors. Strips should measure approximately ½ inch by 2 inches.

    • 4

Stir the wax with the applicator. Pull the applicator out of the wax container, and remove the wax from one side of the applicator by running it along the inside edge of the container opening.

    • 5

Spread the wax over a small section of the area where the unwanted hair is located using the flat side of the applicator. Use firm strokes in the direction of the hair growth. Place a cut muslin strip over the wax. Press firmly into place.

    • 6

Lift a free edge of the muslin strip, and hold firmly with your forefinger and thumb. Quickly pull the muslin strip off in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Tweeze away any remaining hairs.

    • 7

Continue waxing small sections until all unwanted hair has been removed. Clean away remaining wax from the skin using a cotton ball dampened with wax-off cleanser.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always check the temperature of the wax before placing it on the skin. Wax that is too hot will appear extremely runny and will not adhere to the applicator. Properly heated wax will look like thick pancake syrup. If you're unsure, test the wax on the back of your hand.

  • Never apply wax to an area twice. Doing so can result in burns, lacerations and abrasions. If all of the hair is not fully removed on the first try, tweeze remaining hairs.
