1
Remove the lid from your underbed box and set it aside.

2
Take your 39-inch long strip of cardboard and lay it in front of you lengthwise. Now, every 4 3/4 inches along the length of the strip, make a mark 3 inches up the height of the strip. The last section of the strip will be longer than the rest. Make vertical cuts up to those 3-inch marks all along your strip for a total of 7 cuts.

Take your 20-inch strips and lay them lengthwise in front of you. Measure in 10 inches from one end and make a mark 3 inches up the height of the strip. Make vertical cuts up to the 3 inch mark in each strip. Each 20-inch strip will only have one cut in it. You should now have strips of cardboard, the 39-inch strip and the 20-inch strips, with cuts that go halfway through the strips, that will allow them to fit together.
-
4
Place your 39-inch strip down the middle of your underbed box so that the cuts are on the top half of the strip.
-
5
At each cut, place a 20-inch strip so that the cut on that strip is facing down. Slip the two pieces together so that they interlock. You will end up with a underbed box that is divided up into 16 rectangles for organized shoe storage.

Tips & Warnings
For larger pairs of shoes that won't fit into one rectangular compartment, just remove one 20-inch strip to turn two smaller compartments into one larger compartment.
You can use this homemade organizer for more than just shoe storage; you can use it to store belts, scarves and other accessories.
