How to Make Fiesta Tissue Flowers

Tissue paper flowers are easy to make, colorful and never die. Make these carnation-style flowers to celebrate a fiesta, give to a teacher or parent, or decorate your room. Experiment with different colors to make multi-colored blooms, or keep it simple with one color. Small children should have adult supervision when making the flowers. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Tissue paper
  • Chenille stems (traditional green or any color)
  • Pencil
  • Round lids in two different sizes
  • Small size knitting needle or thick tapestry needle

      Layer four sheets of tissue paper. Place the large lid on and trace the circle onto the top sheet of tissue paper. Holding the four sheets together, cut out the circle. Repeat this process with four more sheets of tissue and the smaller lid.

      Place the stack of small circles, centered, on top of the stack of large circles.

      Pierce the tissue stack using a small knitting needle or large tapestry needle, making two holes, side by side, at least 1/2 inch apart.

      Thread the chenille stem up through the first hole and down into the next. Twist the two ends of the chenille stem together to make one thick stem. You can add another chenille stem to make a longer stem.

      Fluff and gently crumple the layers of tissue, one at a time, to give the appearance of a bloom. Take your time.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consider adding a light spray of perfume to the flowers. Make a bunch of flowers and put them in a vase, or twist them into your hair.
