Instructions

    • 1

Mark the areas that you will either fill or cut down with the ground marking paint. Make sure to mark the area larger than the area needed.

    • 2

Use the shovel to remove the top 2 inches of the ground if you are going to save the grass. Otherwise, just remove the grass and discard.

    • 3

Cut down the high areas with the shovel and use this soil to fill in the low areas. If you need additional soil, you can obtain it from the local hardware store. Simple potting soil will work.

    • 4

Tamp or roll the soil and level by eye with a rake.

    • 5

Spread the grass seed over the bare areas and rake into the soil.

    • 6

Cover the bare areas with the straw and water. Continue to water the areas when needed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Quick-grow grass seeds are not recommended for this process.

  • Make sure the grass seed matches the rest of the grass in the lawn.

  • Starter fertilizer will speed up the growth process.

  • Do not mow the areas until the new grass is well-established.
