How to Make Your Own Tie Dye T Shirt Kit

Tie-dye shirts are colorful, creative and fun to make, and tie-dye kits can be a unique gift, party favor or giveaway at a special event. The kits are easy and fairly inexpensive to make, whether you are making one or 100, and you can even get your kids involved in the project. Your event will be remembered for a long time when you give your guests something to take home, make and wear.

• Fabric dye
• Rubber bands
• Marbles
• T-shirts
• Computer
• Paper
• Gift bags

Instructions

1. Go to your local craft store and buy the supplies you need for as many kits as you are making. You will need plain white T-shirts, rubber bands and marbles (about 10 per kit), small packages of different colors of fabric dye, paper on which to print the tie-dye instructions and paper gift bags.

2. Many craft stores will also sell plain white T-shirts. If not, you can buy them at any discount store. If you know the recipient's size, you can buy a specific size. If you do not know the recipient's size, you can purchase a large or extra large to make a sleeping or lounging shirt.

3. At home, print out directions for making tie-dye shirts. You can find directions online. Or you can type up your own using the directions below:

   Sample tie-dye instructions:

   1) Rubber band the T-shirt tightly in various places in order to achieve your desired design. Marbles are optional, but can be used to create a circle design when secured with the rubber bands.

   2) Prepare the dye according to the package instructions.

   3) Submerge the T-shirt in the dye for 15 to 20 minutes.

   4) Remove the T-shirt and rinse in cold water, then ring dry.

   5) Remove rubber bands to reveal the finished product.

   You can print the directions out on plain white paper, or get more creative using stationary or a design.

4. Pack all the supplies in the gift bags you have purchased. The gift bags should be just large enough to fit all the supplies. You can roll the directions in a scroll and tie it with ribbon, or just fold it neatly. You can also decorate the gift bags if you would like, which makes a fun project for kids.
