How to Dispose of Lightbulbs
Household light bulbs include fluorescent and incandescent models. Fluorescent light bulbs, both regular and compact, contain mercury. Mercury is a known hazardous material and should be disposed of correctly and not put directly into landfills. Containment of the bulb is important for the protection of the environment. Incineration of the bulb is never an option because that would release the hazardous material into the atmosphere and allow it to spread it further.
