How to Stop a Social Security Check

A Social Security check is a payment from the Social Security Administration (SSA) made payable to an individual for a social security benefit for a disability, retirement or a spouse's benefits. SSA makes payments for Social Security benefits in one of two forms, by check or through a direct deposit to a recipient's bank account. By default, the SSA normally makes benefit payments in the form of a check. However, recipients have the option of specifically requesting direct deposit payments from the SSA. Direct deposit payments may be generally safer than receiving regular checks in the mail.
