How to Economize in the Recession
In this current world recession, people are losing their jobs at alarming rates and foreclosures are pretty high. These are some very hard times at the moment, especially for families who have children. But there are plenty of ways to manage your money and cut down your budget. 1
Eat at home. Dining out can take a huge chunk of money out of your average budget. Keep in mind that you don't have to stop eating out entirely, but instead limit eating out at restaurants to at least once or twice a month. You can make meals at home instead and save a lot of money. Home-cooked meals taste better, are healthy and are very easy to prepare.

2
Think about bundled savings for the phone, Internet and television. Many companies offer bundled packages where you can combine all three services into one for a cheaper monthly price. For electricity savings, always turn off the lights, adjust the thermostat, and don't run the laundry dryer in the summer--instead hang clothes outside to dry.

3
Drive less. Try to not drive your car every day, and plan your errands so they can all be done in one day. For work, look into opportunities to carpool. Excessive driving is expensive because of gas prices and car maintenance.
-
4
Sell things you don't need. If you have a lot of junk or extra stuff lying around that you don't use, have a yard sale. Many communities hold large yard sales where all residences participate. If you can, take part in one of these.
-
5
Take on a part-time job where you can work at home. Many online companies hire freelance writers, virtual assistants or telemarketers. You can also work as a babysitter or dog-watcher on your days off or after work. Remember this isn't forever, and a part-time job for a little while will bring in some extra income.

6
Collect coupons to save money on groceries. If the groceries are on sale, and you also use the coupons, often you can purchase them for very cheap. This task requires a little bit of coupon hunting and searching for good deals, but pays off in the end.
-
7
Rent out a room or the basement in your house, especially if you live alone or have an extra room. Not only will you get rent, but you can often split the household expenses and bills.
