How to Install Speakers in a Center Console of a Boat
Flush mounting speakers in a boat console will provide a safe and relatively dry location for your stereo equipment, and the installation is smooth a simple. If your stereo head unit is installed in your console, there will be no need to run wires along your boat to reach the speaker locations, and all loose wires can be stored inside the console, where they will be safe from direct water spray. In no time you will be on your way to enjoying your favorite music on your next fishing trip or sailing adventure.

1
Trace the outline of the speaker mount onto the mounting locations on the boat's center console. Many speakers will come with a mounting template that will make it easy to trace the correct size mounting hole.
-
2
Use a saber saw to cut out the traced outlines, creating mounting ports for the speakers.

3
Install the speakers into the mounting ports. Hold the main body of the speaker and mounting bracket behind the cut out, place the speaker grill in front of the cut out, align the screw holes, and secure the entire assembly in place with screws.
-
4
Connect speaker wire from the back of your stereo's head unit to the speakers. Be sure the positive and negative wires are run to the correct terminals. Check that the insulation is intact along the length of the wire, and any stripped ends should be sealed with water-proof electrical tape.
-
5
Power on your boat and stereo and test for sound output. If sound cuts in and out or is not present at all, check that all connections are secure and wired to the right terminals.

Tips & Warnings
If you would like to have speakers that will be adjustable to change the sound's range of projection, you may want to invest in surface mountable speakers with adjustable mounting brackets. These speakers come in an enclosure and are installed by simply securing the mounting system with screws.
Be sure to obtain speakers with shielded magnets if they will be located near sensitive navigational equipment such as compasses, as the magnet of the speaker could affect the reliability of these devices.
