How to Hit a Golf Ball Straight With Open Shoulders
As he takes his practice swing before teeing off, every golfer envisions his dream shot. It's high, long and sails straight away. But there are many components that contribute to a perfect execution and with so many variables in place every factor must be aligned. Every golfer wants their ball to go the distance. He practices stance, grip, posture, swing and follow through in order to insure that he avoids the dreaded slice or hook. One of the key factors in this formula of success becomes the open shoulders.

1
Square up. The first step sets the standard. Golfers need to position their body so that it parallels the target line. Your feet, hip and shoulders should be squared up to the pin or your preferred location on the fairway.
-
2
Open your shoulders. Keeping your shoulders squared up factor into the power, control and distance of the ball. It's important that while addressing the ball you bend at the hips and do not hunch over using your shoulders. Bending at the hips, keeps your shoulders open and helps you maintain good posture, which becomes a key factor in every swing you take.

3
Position the club correctly. The sole of your club should be centered at its base, in other words not tilting forwards or backwards. Any undesired angle on the club may produce a shift in the arch of the ball or intended direction.
-
4
Keep a firm grip. Loosening your grip on the upswing or downswing presents complications during impact. The club ends up striking the upper part of the golf ball, creating a topped shot. Maintaining a strong grip helps insure correct positioning of the club face and allows for a connecting link between your arms and the club at impact.

5
Stay in the right frame. During your back swing remember to keep your shoulders open so that your left shoulder points down and your right shoulder points up.
-
6
Shift your weight. At the point of contact shifting your weight from the back foot to the lead foot is important. Rotating your hips helps this transition and increases the power needed for a great distance shot. Allow your shoulders and club to move in conjunction with your hips.
-
7
Follow through. Turning your hips and shoulders after making contact produces an excellent follow-through form. Make sure that your shoulders end up facing the target. Wherever your shoulders, belly button and hips are facing dictate the direction the ball will travel.
-
8
Stretch your shoulders. For optimal performance stretching exercises involving your shoulders and core stomach muscles helps increase flexibility. Practicing these stretches during a routine exercise regime can help maintain good posture and increase range of motion during your golf swing.
