How to Change Master Lock Combinations

Master Locks are used to keep doors of every kind closed. Master locks are opened with a number dial that has a three-number combination. Often times these combinations are lost, forgotten or discovered by someone who is not supposed to be inside the structure that is kept locked so the combinations need to be changed to a more secure combination.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some Master Locks cannot have their combinations changed. Check the lock to make sure that it is not one that cannot have the combination changed. Typically these locks will have keys along with a combination dial.

  • If the process doesn't work the first time, repeat until it works. Sometimes it is necessary to do it twice, especially in the older models.
