How to Create a USPS Shipping Label Without Postage

If you want to save yourself time at the post office, consider printing your USPS shipping labels at home without postage. The United States Parcel Service developed a program called Shipping Assistant that allows you to fill out your shipping label at your convenience. The program also saves you money by allowing you to print the label without paid postage to ensure that you do not overpay for the estimated weight of your package if you do not own a shipping scale. A wide variety of shipping labels exist to ensure that you buy the right labels to fit your package.

Things You'll Need

• Microsoft Windows 2000 or above
• USPS Shipping Assistant
• Avery shipping label paper
• Printer

Instructions

1. Download the USPS Shipping Assistant. (See References 1) You can also download the shipping assistant by going to USPS.com and typing "Shipping Assistant" in the search box.

2. Fill in the registration information to install the program.

3. Add your shipping information. Once the program opens, fill in the information necessary to ship the package. The information that is required will have red asterisks next to the fields.

4. Click "Print" on the right side of the Shipping Assistant program. If any major errors exist, the program will let you know before it will allow you to print the label. Select your printer once you see the dialog box.

5. Print the shipping label on plain white paper. Select "Print" and affix the shipping label to your package. Once the test print meets your approval, load your printer with the shipping label paper.

6. Take the package to your local USPS office. They will weigh the package and give you the postage amount for shipping.
