How to Check My Immigration Marriage Case Online

An immigration marriage case refers to getting a lawful permanent resident status (green card) through marriage to a U.S citizen or a green card holder. It is considered a family-based green card application and requires filing an immigrant petition I-130 followed by the adjustment to status form I-485 with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). USCIS assigns a unique processing number to each petition filed that allows you to check the case status.

Instructions

1. Look through the form I-797C, commonly known as a USCIS receipt, and find the number in the field 'Receipt Number" located in the top-left corner of the document.

2. Open your Web browser and navigate to the USCIS website.

3. Click on the link "Check My Case Status" under "Customer Tools" on the left panel of the Web page.

4. Enter your receipt number in the corresponding field and click "Check Status" button. Note you must type the receipt number without dashes despite the fact it is given with dashes on the form I-797C.

5. Read the case status description that will appear on the right panel. It also depicted graphically as a shaded circle representing the current step in the case processing. For example, a shaded circle "Testing and Interview" means you have been scheduled for an interview with an immigrant officer.
