How to Install a New Mobile Home Window
Replacing cracked or broken windows will reduce your energy costs and improve the appearance of your mobile home. Horizontal slider, vertical slider or jalousie replacement mobile-home windows are readily available at any mobile-home parts store--and you don't need to be a master carpenter to replace them. Using the correct replacement window, the right tools ,and weather proofing makes this a project that you can do in an afternoon. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Small crow bar
- Drill
- 3/16th bit
- Paint scraper
- Putty tape
- #8 sheet metal screws
- 2 1/2-inch wood screws
- Silicone caulk

Remove Old Window

Remove the outside window trim (if any), by unscrewing the wood screws with a drill, equipped with a 3/16th bit, run in reverse and prying the trim away from the mobile home with a small crow bar.

Remove the screws that hold the window to the window frame with the drill run in reverse.

Slowly pry the window out of the window frame with a small crow bar.

Remove the old weather stripping and caulk by scraping it with a paint scraper.
Install New Window

Place putty tape along the new window flange (metal frame) by lining it up and removing the adhesive backing a little at a time. Keep the tape straight along the entire window flange.

Set the replacement window in the window opening and screw it in place with #8 sheet metal screws, at each of the pre-drilled screw holes.

Replace the window trim (if any). Using a drill, attach the trim to the siding with 2 1/2-inch wood screws, screwed through the trim into the siding.

Seal the trim. Run a 3/18-inch bead of silicone caulk along the outside perimeter of the trim to seal it.

Tips & Warnings
Replacement windows are sized by the outside perimeter measurements. Be sure to measure the window opening to avoid having to re-frame it.
