You can use your laptop to do work, play games or watch a movie. However, in order to enjoy your laptop on long-haul trips, you will need to hook the laptop into an on-board power adapter for your seat.

Arrange to have a seat on the plane that has power running to it. Most first class and business class sections of a plane have power running to each seat. For international flights, most seats in coach have power as well, however on domestic flights power may only be given to certain rows on planes.

Determine the type of power available to you on the plane. The two types of power used on planes are AC power and DC power. The AC power type will allow you to use the power plug that typically comes with your laptop, while the DC type will require an adapter.
