How to Remove a Windows Genuine Certification

Sometimes Microsoft gets it wrong and believes that your genuine copy of Windows is not genuine, and the notifications that pop up not only get annoying but can keep you from accessing certain files and programs. Luckily, a few files can be deleted that will get those notifications to go away and allow you free roam throughout your operating system. Doing this will allow you to continue downloading Windows updates and using genuine Windows programs.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your computer and press "F8" during boot-up.

    • 2

Choose "Safe Mode with Networking" and press "Enter."

    • 3

Open up "My Computer" and then open the "C:" folder, then open the Windows folder. From here, open the "System32" folder.

    • 4

Locate the file "WgaTray.exe" and delete it. Find the folder "Dllcache" and delete the same file (WgaTray.exe) there as well.

    • 5

Close the Explorer window and click the Windows 'Start" button in the lower left-hand corner, then click "Run." Type in the word "regedit" and press Enter.

    • 6

Navigate to the following location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
      Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify

    • 7

Right-click to delete the value and folder "WgaLogon."

    • 8

Reboot your computer and the notifications will be gone!

Tips & Warnings

  • Back up your registry before making any changes to it.

  • This is strictly for users who need to remove notifications because they are incorrect, and is not to be used to access Windows features without proper authentication.
