How to Get Your Social Insurance Number

A Social Insurance Number (SIN) is a special identification number issued by Service Canada to Canadian citizens and residents. A SIN is a vital part of everyday living in Canada, especially since most services require a SIN. For example, to apply for a Canadian passport, or to apply for employment in Canada, a SIN is required. Canadian Law dictates that anyone applying for a SIN must demonstrate that they are a legal Canadian resident/citizen.
