How to Read a Work Time Clock
Work time clocks are the clocks that keep track of the time worked by employees. The payroll department uses printouts of this information in preparing paychecks, so knowing how to read a work time clock to ensure that the information listed on it is accurate is essential to tracking your earnings. Salaried employees usually do not have to use time clocks, but hourly workers usually do.

Verify that the time on the work clock before you clock in or out is correct.

Read the time that flashes on the work time clock when you clock in. This is the time you started.

Read the time that flashes on the work time clock when you clock out. This is the time you finished.

Read the times that flash on the work time clock directly after the times listed in steps 2 and 3. The first time is your time in for the current day, and the second time is a running total of your time for the week so far.

Tips & Warnings
Make note of your running total of time in so that if you are five to 10 minutes over, you can leave five to 10 minutes early on your last day of work for the week.
