How to Cook Peppers & Onions for Sausage Grinders

Sausage grinders can be made out of turkey, pork, beef, or a combination of the three. Two staple ingredients in sausage grinders are green peppers and onions. You will need to cook the green peppers and onions before combining them with the meat. This is not difficult, and can be done ahead of time so that you can quickly put the grinders together.   • 1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 bell peppers
  • 2 medium onions

      Rinse the bell peppers and cut them in half. Remove the seeds and then rinse them again. Chop them into bite size pieces.

      Remove the skin from the onions and rinse them. Chop them into bite size pieces.

      Heat oil in frying pan over low heat.

      Add the chopped green peppers and onions to the oil.

      Cook peppers and onions until the onions become translucent. That means they appear clear when you look at them. Once this happens, they are done and ready to go into the grinders.

  • You can use different colored bell peppers or stick with the traditional green.

  • Cooking peppers and onions over a higher heat setting may lead them to burn before they can become translucent.
