How to Set Up a Science Fair Project

The display created for a science fair will depend largely on the experiment being documented. Models, posters and interactive experiments will have different set up needs. Verify any rules or requirements for the science fair. Determine what size table or surface will be provided for the display to ensure the experiment will fit.

Instructions

    • 1

Glue the title of your experiment at the top of the center panel of a tri-fold poster board. Organize the information to be shared on the board so it will read like a newspaper. Information should flow from top to bottom and left to right. Include each step of the experiment. Use a text font of at least 16 points for easy reading and a font of at least 24 points for the title.

    • 2

Create a second poster display with photographs of the steps of the experiment if the actual experiment will not be on display. Use color photographs and clear labels for each step.

    • 3

Place all poster boards on the display table. Place an example of the experiment or the model in the center of the table. Run the experiment at regular intervals throughout the course of the fair as this will make the display more interesting.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the actual experiment cannot be displayed, consider creating an electronic presentation or video of the experiment for the display. You can show the presentation on a laptop computer.

  • Make sure all printed materials are large enough to be easily read. Color pictures and photographs will add impact to the presentation.
