How to Wrap Burlap Around a Bush
Getting ready for winter means bringing in the lawn furniture, putting up storm windows and maybe preparing firewood. It also means protecting young plants that may not have had time to root securely before the first frost. Wrapping shrubs in burlap is a simple, inexpensive way to shelter them. A burlap-wrapped bush stays warmer, but the open weave allows the bush can breathe, and the light weight prevents stress on new branches. It's easy to wrap bushes in burlap, and even easier if you have a helper. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure the circumference of the bush. Double it and add 6 inches. Use the shears to cut a piece of burlap that fits your measurement. This doesn't have to be exact but should cover the bush.
-
2
Wind the burlap around the bush, working from the top down. Let the top edge of the fabric flop over the top of the bush, but don't layer it too tightly-the bush needs to breathe, and allowing some sunlight to get in will help it through the winter.

3
Wrap twine loosely around the burlap at the top and tie it securely with a square knot. Repeat at the center of the bush and at the bottom. Have your helper hold the burlap in place while you do this, if you have one.

Tips & Warnings
Water your plant thoroughly before wrapping it, to keep it from drying out.
Leave the top open a little but, or the bush can get too warm on sunny days.
