How to Make the Color Aqua

Aqua is light bluish-green color, meaning that it is found somewhere between blue and green. Blue is a standard color base from which green and aqua are made. Therefore, blue, aqua and green are monochrome colors, which means that they are the same color in different values. To darken a color, add black to it; to lighten a color, add white. No matter what your medium is, creating the color aqua requires a bit of understanding of the color wheel.

Things You'll Need

• Blue paint
• Mixing pallet
• White paint
• Paintbrush

Instructions

1. Add a drop of blue paint to a mixing pallet, as blue is the base for creating aqua.

2. Add half a drop of white paint to the blue paint. Because aqua is the color value in the middle of blue and green, adding half the amount of blue paint will form this middle value color.

3. Mix the blue and white together with a paintbrush, and add more white paint as needed until you reach the hue of aqua that you desire.

Tips & Warnings

• If you accidentally add too much white paint to the blue paint and your color becomes too green, add some black paint to it to darken it back to a bluer color.
