Acne can be an annoying skin condition. For those who suffer from it severely, the pimples associated with acne can be extremely embarrassing. Use over the counter treatments that contain benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, salicylic acid or sulfur. Products with these ingredients can help to kill the bacteria on the skin, break up pimples and stop the shedding of skin cells lining oil glads. Destroying pimples and helping to prevent future outbreaks.

    • 2

Watch your diet. A diet heavy in fat and grease can contribute to oil in the skin. The more oil you have on the skin, the more dirt is trapped within that oil. Leaving you open to breakouts.

    • 3

Try to avoid stress. Stressful situations can cause the body to release hormones that cause the oil glands in the skin to over produce. The over production of oil is what causes acne.

    • 4

Women can try birth control pills to control acne. The ingredients in birth control pills can help control hormone induced acne in women by helping to balance the hormones in a woman's body causing oil glands to over produce.

    • 5

See your dermatologist. Your dermatologist may be able to prescribe medicine that can help treat acne.

Tips & Warnings

  • Exercise. When you exercise you release endorphins into the body that can help you stay calm in stressful situations. Taking the time for a brisk walk in your day can help you remain calm so stress induced hormones don't cause the oil glands to over produce.

  • If any acne medication causes skin to feel overly dry or burns stop using it immediately. These may be signs of allergic reaction.
