How to Design an Online Class Ring
Class rings are as much a tradition of graduating from school as are diplomas, yearbooks, and Pomp and Circumstance. Rings commemorating graduation originated at West Point Academy in the 1800's, and grew into fashion by the 1900's. Today, most seniors in high school and college will still cross their graduation stage while sporting a ring that bears a symbol of their school and the graduation year. Unique to students in recent years, is the ability to customize rings in every detail, from the font, to the emblems selected, to the stones, to the width of the band. There are many retailers that make this process easy by utilizing web based ring design programs.

1
Open the internet browser on a computer to a web searching site and enter search criteria such as "class ring" or "class ring designer." Or, go straight to the home page of well-known class ring retailers, such as Jostens, Herff Jones, Balfour, or Gold Lance.
-
2
Scan the site menu, typically found at the top or along the side of the web page, until you find a title such as "Ring Design," or "Design Your Ring." Open this page.
-
-
3
Follow the prompt of the design tool. For example, the Jostens web site will prompt you to first select whether you are interested in men's or women's rings.
-
4
Continue to follow the prompts through the ring design process. On the Jostens web site, the next prompt will be to select a specific ring design. Options include the traditional center stone, stackable bands, and engagement style designs.
-
5
Choose the type of metal you prefer. Options vary by the style of ring selected, and can include gold, silver, platinum, and pewter.
-
6
Select your desired stone and the style of cut you prefer. Stones can be selected based on a school's colors, the birth stone of the wearer, or a favorite color. Stones also range in price based on the selection of synthetic gems, artificial stones, or rare stones such as saphires and diamonds.
-
7
Select the images you wish to appear on the left and right sides of the stone. Images can be school mascots, zodiac signs, activity emblems, sports emblems, or dates. Available images will vary by company, but are typically wide in scope, providing the buyer with a myriad of options.
-
8
Enter final details such as desired band engravings and ring size. At this time, the price of the ring should be displayed.
-
9
Finish the design process by deciding to print an order form, purchase the ring online, save a copy of the ring's image to share with others, or re-design any or all elements of the ring.
