How to Manage the Power on a Laptop

Windows operating systems install a power management utility application along with the operating system during the initial installation. Power options for the laptop may be managed using the power management utility program. Three default power plans are installed by default: Balanced, Power Saver and High Performance. In addition, customized power plans may be created. Other power options may also be managed through the power management utility interface.

      Click the Windows "Start" button and select the "Control Panel" program option.

      Click the "Power Options" icon in the Control Panel.

      Check the radio button in front of the desired power plan option.

Tips & Warnings

  • Advanced options, including customized power plans, may be configured by using the links on the left navigation panel. Advanced options include Require a password on wakeup, Choose what the power buttons do, Choose what closing the lid does, Choose when to turn off the display, Create a custom power plan, Change when the computer sleeps and Adjust the display brightness.
