Instructions

  1. Rebuild Healthy Hair

    • 1

Allow a stylist to cut as much of the damage off as possible. As the hair grows, cut up to half an inch every four weeks, then every six weeks after the severe damage is gone. This keeps the damage to a minimum.

    • 2

In a bowl or a pot, mix 4 to 6 tsp. almond oil with 2 to 4 tsp. coconut oil. The amount depends on the length of the hair. Warm the oil in a microwave or on the stove to a warm temperature, not hot to the touch. You may use olive or rosemary oil as well.

    • 3

Dampen the hair. Pour some of the oil mixture into the palms of your hands. Massage it into the hair. Concentrate on the ends of the hair and put very little near the roots.

    • 4

Cover with a plastic shower cap, bag or some sort of plastic wrap. Let the oil mixture sit in the hair for about 30 minutes to an hour. Rinse clean of the oil and shampoo. Condition as usual. Apply a few drops of almond oil to the ends of the hair; this serves as a leave-in-conditioner.

    • 5

Next, wash your hair less frequently each week. Washing the hair strips it of the oils needed to keep it healthy. Aim for two or three times a week.

    • 6

Allow hair to dry naturally as often as possible. The use of styling tools, such as flat irons, curling irons or hair dryers, causes significant damage to the hair follicles. Use any tool at the lowest heat setting possible to minimize damage.

Tips & Warnings

  • Deep treatment products are available at local supermarkets.

  • It takes up to a year for damaged hair to be replaced by healthy hair.

  • Make sure to rinse the oil out of the hair, too much left in leaves a greasy effect.

  • Coloring, highlighting, relaxers and perms damage the hair, sometimes extensively. Try to avoid these.
