Instructions

    • 1

Chose fabric for your bun holder. Fabric that holds your fabric well is something with nap, like velvet or velveteen, but the choice of fabric is entirely up to you. Cut the two strips of fabric that are 3-inches wide and 16-1/2-inches long. Round the corners evenly on the top and bottom.

    • 2

Pin the two long fabric pieces together right side to right side, then sew 1/4 inch around from the edge of the fabric. Leave a gap of about 4 inches along one of the sides. Measure in 1/4 inch from where you sewed, and sew around the the same path. Remember to leave a 4-inch gap in the same place.

    • 3

Bend over the one end of the wire with a pair of pliers and feed it around between the two lines of stitching. Cut little notches along the rounded ends of the fabric, but be careful not to cut the thread.

    • 4

Turn the fabric right side out. This will take a while. Once the fabric is right side out, wind the ends of the wire around each other until they overlap by an inch. Snip off any excess.

    • 5

Wind the scrap of fabric around the wire where it joins, and glue it in place with the craft glue. This will protect the ends of the wire from poking through the fabric. Let the wire slip back inside and sew the 4-inch gap closed.

    • 6

Find the center in the length of the fabric, and mark a line 2-1/2-inches long. Do a button hole stitch 1/16 inch all the way around this line. Cut along this line, being careful not to cut the thread.

Use your bun holder by pulling your hair back in a ponytail, feed the end of the ponytail through the opening, and roll up your hair until it is in a bun. Secure your bun by winding the wire around to your head.
