How to Find the Mac Number on a Laptop With Vista

A Media Access Control, or MAC, address is a unique identifier associated with network adapters such as Ethernet, wireless or Bluetooth devices. Much like an IP address, the MAC address is unique to the specific hardware and is assigned by the manufacturer. However, it does not vary or change like IP configurations. Finding your laptop's MAC address in Windows Vista is very simple.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click the "Start" button.

    • 2

In "Search" field, type 'cmd' to open a command prompt.

    • 3

      In command window, type 'getmac'.

    • 4

In the category listed "physical address" are all MAC addresses associated with the network devices installed on your laptop.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some, not all, laptop manufacturers list the MAC address(es) underneath where the battery is installed or near where the serial number is listed.
