Download FotoSketcher (see Resources section). Click the "Download" link, and then install and launch the program.

Click the folder-shaped icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Browse to the image that you would like to convert, and double-click it.

Use the drop-down menu that appears at the top of the window to select the basic style for the picture that you would like to convert. The drawing types include pencil, pen and ink and painting.

Adjust the strength of the drawing effect. At lower levels, more of the original photo will be seen through the drawing.

Adjust the level of simplification for the image. At lower levels, the drawing will look more like the original image. At higher levels, it will have a more abstract feel.

Adjust the intensity of the colors in the drawing. At the bottom of the slider bar, the drawing will be in black and white. At the top of the slider, the color will be much more vivid than in the original photo.

Adjust the intensity of the brush strokes. At higher levels, every individual brush stroke will be clearly visible in the final drawing, almost as if they are scratched into the image.

Put checks into the appropriate boxes to soften the image and add a frame. Decide whether the image should be textured to give it the appearance of being painted on a canvas.

Click "Draw it" to complete your image. Depending on the speed of your computer, this process may take several minutes.

Click the floppy disk--shaped icon to save your drawing if you are happy with it. If you would like to make further adjustments, click the icon shaped like a painter's palette.
