How to Create Podcast Logos
No matter what kind of podcast you're producing, a good icon is vital. Not only does it help to catch the eye of prospective subscribers, it can also communicate what kind of feel your podcast has. In addition, the lack of an icon on your podcast's iTunes page will seem unpolished and unprofessional. Whether your icon is simple or complicated, putting a logo together is an important part of promoting your podcast.

1
Open your image editing program of choice. If you don't have image editing software, one free imaging program is GIMP, a link to which can be found in the Resources section at the end of the article.
-
2
Open a new image file and set the canvas size. Apple recommends an icon that is at least 600 x 600 pixels large and has the same height as width. Although you can create a larger image and then shrink it down later, this may scrunch up certain elements of your icon.

3
Browse the iTunes podcast directory to get an idea for what kind of icons have already been created. Take into account what kind of podcast you have. For example, a personality-driven comedy podcast will probably have a different icon than an instructional podcast.
-
4
Decide what elements you would like your icon to include. At the very minimum, your icon should have the name of your podcast on it. Keep in mind that the podcast directory in iTunes presents a shrunk-down version of your icon, so try to use large, clear text.

5
Decide if you would like to add images to your logo. Images can be especially useful if they evoke the subject matter of your podcast. For example, a podcast about do-it-yourself home maintenance may feature construction tools next to the podcast's name.
-
6
Save your icon as either a .jpg or .png file. These are the file types that iTunes supports for podcast icons.
