How to Cover Nails to Make Them Strong

Strong, healthy fingernails distinguish beautiful hands. Deficiency in diet or underlying health issues can cause formerly strong and healthy fingernails to become thin or brittle. You can strengthen weak fingernails with fabric nail wraps. You can purchase the products from a beauty supply and apply the wraps to your own nails to avoid a trip to the nail salon. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Make nails strong

    • 1

Gently pass the buffer over clean, polish-free nails to remove the shine. This will aid in adhesion of the product.

    • 2

Make a small hole in the tube of the nail glue. You can do this with a stick pen. You will want the hole to be small so that the glue will not run out of control. Drop a bead of the nail glue on one nail and use the tip to spread it even over the nail plate. Move quickly because nail glue dries in seconds.

    • 3

Remove a pre-cut fabric strip slightly smaller than the size of the fingernail. Place it securely on the fingernail. Your hands should be clean and oil free because any debris will prevent proper adherence of the wrap.

    • 4

Apply a thin, even coat of brush-on resin to the nails. Hold the nails horizontal to the working surface so the resin does not run back towards the cuticle or form in a pool at the free edge of the nail.

    • 5

Spray on the resin activator. The resin will dry in about 5 seconds. Repeat this process on the remaining nine fingernails.

    • 6

File the nails to the desired length and shape. Square fingernails with soft rounded edges are usually the most durable.

    • 7

Buff the nails smooth using the nail buffer.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can apply polish over the wraps. Buff your nails to a high gloss shine with a three-way shining buffer as an alternative to polish.

  • Acetone will break down the glue that holds on the nail wraps. Use a non-acetone remover when removing nail polish.

  • If the wraps begin to lift, remove them instead of attempting to reattach them with glue. This can trap water and dirt, causing a fungus to grow.
