How to Set Up Parental Controls on Your Computer

Setting up parental controls on a computer will help you manage all of the software and games that your children have access to. You can also set up a time frame of specific hours they can be on the computer and use the Internet.

The controls are automatically set up where children can request a new Web page or program and parents can add it on to the list of allowed programs by simply typing in their password.

Instructions

    • 1

Log on to an administrative account. Navigate to the "Start" menu and select the "Control Panel."

    • 2

Select "User Accounts and Family Safety" and "Set up parental controls for any user." If your child doesn't already have an account, click the "Create a new user account" link. Then type in your child's name or nick name and click the "Create account" button.

    • 3

After your child's account is created, click on his icon to highlight it. Parental Control Options subsequently appears. You can modify time limits, accessibility to games and particular programs. Click on the appropriate link, make your changes and click "Done." Your parental controls have been set.
