How to Find Out When Someone Unfollows You on Twitter

The social media network Twitter allows you to customize your account so you will receive an email notification when another account follows you. However, if you are an individual or business interested in knowing when someone unfollows you on Twitter, you must use third-party applications. You can sign up for free apps that will monitor your follower activity and send you emails or tweets when you lose followers.

Instructions

      Navigate to the Twitter website (link in Resources) and log in to your account.

      Navigate to the Qwitter website (link in Resources). Qwitter informs you via email when one of your Twitter followers unfollows you. It also emails weekly notices of unfollowing activity for your account. Qwitters offers a free and a premium service. You can track one account for free.

      Click “Sign up free.” Click the “Authorize App” button on the Twitter authorization pop-up window that appears.

      Type your email address in the appropriate field. If you want the service to send out a tweet on your account about your unfollowers each week, check the “Autotweet” box.

      Navigate to your webmail service or open your email client. Log in to check for a verification email from Qwitter.

      Open the email from Qwitter and click the verification link in the message. A confirmation page displays a message stating that Qwitter is now tracking your unfollowers.

      Click the “More Info” button if you want to sign up for the premium service, QwitterPro.

      Click “Settings” to change your notification email address or stop receiving emails from Qwitter.

    NutshellMail

      Navigate to the NutshellMail website (link in Resources). This service will send you emails detailing your social media activity such as the number of Twitter unfollows for your account.

      Sign in with your Twitter or Facebook account, or create an account using the “Create Account” link. If you choose Facebook or Twitter to sign up, you must follow the steps to give authorization to NutshellMail to access your account details. You must also provide your email address in an “Enter Your Email” pop-up window. Skip the next two steps if you sign up via Facebook or Twitter.

      Click the “Create Account” link if you do not want to use Facebook or Twitter as your login. Click the "Twitter" icon in the Connect Your Accounts section.

      Click the “Authorize App” button in the pop-up window that opens. Click “Continue.”

      Check your email for an authorization message from NutshellMail. Click the authorization link in the email. No matter how you signed up, NutshellMail will request an email authorization.

      Click the "Delivery Schedule" tab. You can choose how often you want an update on your follower activity sent to you. Click the boxes next to the days and times listed to set a delivery schedule. Click “Save."

      Click the “Update” button for an instant update of activity. Whenever you log in to the service, you can send yourself an instant update by clicking this button.

    Unfollowers.me

      Navigate to the Unfollowers.me website (link in Resources). Unfollowers.me is a service that sends you an email or tweet when fans unfollow you. The free version updates your list of unfollowers every 24 hours while the paid version updates every hour.

      Click the “Sign in with Twitter” button, then click the “Sign in” button on the Twitter authorization pop-up window that appears.

      Type your email address in the designated field. Check the boxes next to the Unfollowers.me notification options in the “How unfollowers.me should notify you about new unfollowers?” section. You can choose to have an email sent to you with the unfollowers update and have the service post a daily tweet to your account about your recent unfollowers tally.

      Click the “OK, sounds good” button. A list of all of the people who you follow but who don't follow you back appears on the screen. There are also navigation tabs to see lists of recent unfollowers, recent followers, people you do not follow back, friends and followers.

      Click “Account Settings” if you want to change your email address for notifications or if you want to sign up for the paid service.

  • Don't take it personally when someone unfollows you. Twitter users can have varied reasons for following and unfollowing each other.

  • Don't bother or harrass the person that unfollowed you.
