An unsecured loan is basically a loan that is given to you solely on your personal promise to repay it on time. It does not require that you put up anything of value as collateral such as a house or a vehicle. The lender takes more risk because there is nothing but your word to back up the loan. The lender relies on credit record information to make their decision in most, but not all, cases. Normally you need good or excellent credit to get an unsecured loan from a bank or credit union.

If you go into a bank or credit union for an unsecured loan you can get a small personal loan for at least six months.
The first thing is to sit down with the lender representative and explain the purpose of your loan and discuss how long you will need to have to repay the loan. You should be able to get six months or more. The banker will consult with a manager and bring you an answer. Usually this is immediate but not always. If approved, they will put money into your bank account. -

If you have or can get a zero interest credit card you can use it for an unsecured loan source.

Payday loans (cash advance loans) are a short term option for unsecured loans. They are backed by your bank account; if you default it is treated like a bounced check.
