How to Download From Safari on iPod Touch
The mobile Safari application natively does not allow for the downloading of items, though the iPhone hacking community has put together a great plugin that overrides this limitation. It is a complicated process and requires a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch to work.
Things You'll Need
- iPod Touch (jailbroken)
- Cyberduck or similar FTP application
- Mobile Safari download plugin file

1
If your device is not already jailbroken, do so now.
-
2
Download OpenSSH to your iPod. On your jailbroken device, open either Cydia or Icy. These are the "App Stores" of the jailbreak community and are placed on your phone when you jailbreak it. Search for OpenSSH and install it. This will allow you to get into the system files on your iPod.

3
Download the plugin to your computer.
-
4
Open Cyberduck or an FTP/SSH application of your choice. Make sure your iPod is connected to the same network as your computer, and browse for the device under the Bonjour tab. Double-click your device to open a secure connection. The default username is "root," and the default password is "alpine;" this will give you access to all the hidden system folders.
-
5
Add the plugin to your iPod. Within Cyberduck, while connected to your iPod, navigate to the folder /System/Library/Internet Plug-Ins and drag the downloaded plugin into the Internet Plug-Ins folder. After the file copies over, hold down the home and power buttons on your iPod until it reboots.

6
Upon reboot, the plugin will have created a Downloads folder (located in var/root/Downloads), and you can now download items directly to your iPod from web pages via Mobile Safari just as you would on your home computer.
