How to Download Yahoo Finance History to Excel

Yahoo Finance is a great source for historical stock prices. The site is simple to navigate. The data is relatively simple to import into Excel, enabling you to perform various analyses on the data, such as calculating returns or beta.

Instructions

1. Go to finance.yahoo.com.

2. Enter a ticker such as IBM in the search field and click on "Get Quotes." Click on the "Historical Prices" link on the left.

3. Adjust the start and end dates, as well as the frequency of the data you would like to view. Click the "Get Prices" button.

4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the "Download To Spreadsheet" link. Choose the "Open" option to open the data in a spreadsheet or "Save" to save the spreadsheet.
