How to Create a Stock Portfolio for Paper Trading

The stock market can be a risky endeavor as no investment is completely risk free. This is especially the case for those who are just beginning to invest in the market. In this case, setting up a virtual trading account is a great way to gain experience in trading and test your ability to make profitable stock picks without the risk. This is called "paper trading" and the Internet makes paper trading very easy.

Instructions

      Go to Yahoo! Finance. Click on the "My Portfolios" tab at the top of the page. You will need to sign in or create an account with Yahoo! in order to create a virtual trading account.

      Click on "Create New Portfolio" in the middle of the screen and then click "Track your transaction history" on the next page. This option will allow you to input more information about each transaction.

      Name your portfolio and click "Continue" unless you would like to make additional changes.

      Enter as much information as you have about the first stock you would like to have in your paper trading stock portfolio. You will need to know the date of the of the transaction, the transaction type (buy/sell), the ticker symbol of the stock, the number of shares you wish to purchase of the stock, and the share price for each stock purchase.

      Click "Create Another" to make another entry or "Save" to view your new virtual portfolio.
