How to Convert Verizon Sounds to Ringtones

The difference between a cell phone sound and a cell phone ringtone is its file format. Most ringtones are .mp3 while sounds may be in a .wav or .mid format. While the difference seems minimal, the extension attached to your sound makes a difference in where the file is stored and/or played, and the operating system needs to know where to find it. Converting your sounds and making Verizon ringtones is easy to do if you don't get tangled up in the extensions.

Things You'll Need

• Verizon cell phone with internet, email, and sounds
• Computer with internet access and email software
• File conversion software (optional)

Instructions

1. Find the sound you wish to convert to ringtone in your My Sounds folder of your Verizon cell phone. This folder is usually in the media option of most smart phones.

2. Select the sound you wish to convert and attach it to an e-mail to send to your computer email address. In most cases, the attached file will automatically convert to .mp3 during the email process. If it does, you can skip to step 4.

3. Use a universal audio conversion software if your e-mailed sound file does not automatically convert from .wav to .mp3. One of the highest rated and easiest to use programs to create a ringtone from any type of file is Switch (freeware you can download at www.nch.com.)

4. Once the file is in mp3 format, e-mail the file as an attachment to your phone ([e-mail]), open it, and let it play.

5. Save the file in My Ringtones on your phone.

• There are many Web sites that allow you to download ringtones, such as http://www.freeringtones.mbuzzy.com or http://www.cellware.com.

• Most cell phone providers also have ringtones for sale or subscription. Visit your provider's Web site for more information.
