How to Build a Deer Tower Blind
Tower blinds offer the advantage of mobility and elevation when hunting deer. While companies provide several models for the general outdoor market, building your own tower stand allows you to custom-design the blind so that it meets your exact specifications. Considerations such as weight, durability and height must be taken into account to optimize the performance of your tower blind in the field.
Things You'll Need
- Aluminum ladder
- Support poles
- Nuts
- Bolts
- Ply board
- Electric drill
- Strong outdoor adhesive
- Foam cushion

Building the Blind
-
1
Cut a square of ply board to serve as the tower blind's platform. This area should be large enough to allow the hunter comfortable room to sit but not be overly cumbersome, adding needless weight to the stand.
-
2
Drill holes on the two corners of the platform where the supporting poles will be attached and another set of holes where the ladder section will lead up. This creates a three-part structure that will tie the platform to a tripod base, ensuring stability once the tower is built.
-
-
3
Bolt the ladder section directly to the platform using as many nuts and bolts as necessary to make sure the connection is firm. The ladder to platform connection is the centerpiece of the tower's structural integrity. Not making this connection as strong as possible could lead to unsafe climbing conditions.
-
4
Bolt the supporting poles to the rear corners of the platform to provide the remaining aspects of the tripod design. Use a mounting joint that allows the poles to swing on a hinge so that the poles can be swung parallel to the ladder while the stand is being transported.
-
5
Attach the foam padding to the platform with a strong outdoor adhesive. This padding will allow the hunter a comfortable sitting position that makes spending time in the blind not such as chore.
-
6
Test the tower's stability before taking it into the woods, making sure the supporting poles lock safely in place once the stand is completely erected.
-
7
Put lubricant on all connections and joints to minimize any squeaking that might occur when the stand is in use.

Tips & Warnings
Tower stands should be removed from the hunting area if they are not in everyday use. Even between weekends, the blind should be removed and stored out of the elements.
